Meet the Ghanaian players in the Uefa Champions League and their opponents
Some Ghanaian players will be showcasing their talents in Europe when the Champions League group stages officially kick off.
We take a look at these players and their group stage opponents following the draw held on Thursday, August 25, in Istanbul, Turkey.
Mohammed Kudus – Ajax
Kudus who enjoying his third season with Dutch giants Ajax has been drawn in Group A alongside Liverpool, Napoli and Rangers.
The 22-year-old had a blistering start to the competition in his debut against Liverpool last two seasons. Unfortunately, his debut ended on a sorrowful note as the Ghana international played lasted only 10 minutes before injury ruled him out of the competition in the 2020/21 season.
Kudus returned to the competition last season and managed two appearances before Ajax were eliminated from the competition.
He will be hoping to qualify for the knockout stage.
Abdul Fatawu Issahaku – Sporting Lisbon
Ghanaian youngster Abdul Fatawu Issahaku and his team Sporting Lisbon will face Frankfurt, Tottenham and Marseille in the group stage.
The Portuguese giants will face Europa League winners Frankfurt in the opening game of Group D next month.
The 18-year-old has two appearances for Sporting and is likely to get a substitute role for the team in this competition should he continue to impress.
Abdul Fatawu Issahaku is likely to make his debut in the competition this season.
Kamal Sowah- Club Brugge
Kamal Sowah is expected to feature in the champions league group stage when the team face their Group B opponents who are Porto, Spanish side Athletico Madrid and Bayern Leverkusen from Germany.
The 22-year-old has been given a lifeline under new coach Carl Hoefkens since rejoining the club from his loan spell last season.
The former Leicester City midfielder was on loan to AZ Alkmaar last season after struggling for game time under former coach Alfred Schreuder.
He has so far played five Champions League games after joining the Belgian side from Leicester City.
Dennis Odoi- Club Brugge
Dennis Odoi will be looking forward to his UEFA Champions League debut for Club Brugge since joining in the 2012/13 season.
He is a teammate of fellow Ghanaian star Kamal Sowah
The former Fulham defender last played in the UCL competition with Anderlecht and recorded four appearances.
Other Ghanaian names in the competition such as Ansgar Knauff (Frankfurt), Callum Hudson-Odoi (Chelsea), Jeremie Frimpong (Bayer Leverkusen) were left out of the list since they are yet to commit their international future with Ghana.
