Rapper Samuel Kofi Frimpong, also known as Medikal, has been convicted and subsequently fined GH₵3,600 by the Accra Circuit Court for brandishing a gun on social media.
In default, he will serve nine months in prison.
This was after the 28-year-old musician, who was charged with the display of arms and ammunition, changed his plea from not guilty to guilty on Monday, 21 February 2o22.
Medikal had earlier pleaded not guilty when he first appeared before the court on 22 October 2021.
The court was expected to rule on an application filed by Medikal’s legal team to order the police to release the Ruger nine-millimetre pistol belonging to the musician.
However, when the case was called Monday morning, Medikal told the court that he wanted to change his plea.
The charges were read out to him, and he pleaded guilty to the charges.
Per the facts, the accused person in September 2021, whilst in his car, without any reasonable excuse, displayed a rugger 9mm pistol and posted the video on his snap chat social media platform.
The prosecution said on March 26, 2021, the video of the weapon the accused displayed went viral.
On October 21, the police acting on intelligence arrested the accused and handed him to the regional criminal investigations department for investigation.
The accused admitted the offence in his investigation cautioned statement and was subsequently charged and arraigned.
