Media houses want me to fight Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale before promoting me – Ras Kuuku
Dancehall artiste, Ras Kuuku, has registered his displeasure at how media houses push few musicians and ignore the works of others who are equally hardworking and talented.
According to the ‘Wo’ musician, media houses expect him to fight other A-level musicians before his works would be ushered into the limelight.
“People want me to fight someone or create some mess. They ask why I am not in the news and why I don’t I throw jabs. But, I can’t do that, music is for the soul so I cannot waste time fighting people for hype,” he said on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM on Wednesday.
Ras Kuuku believes Nigerians are good at promoting their acts, hence Ghanaians should emulate them.
“Every year we have one or two Nigerian acts who boss up here, do we have Ghanaians doing the same there? When 2 Face comes here he will bring another act. When we go there, we take no one along. We need to help each other in the industry. They are waiting for me to fight Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale before they promote me,” he told Merqury Quaye.
The musician urged radio hosts and media houses to shift their focus on other acts since Ghanaians have many undiscovered talents.
“I need the push and support. I want them to recognise and accept me. They should put me there. The youth of Ghana are no longer into wacky music. Compare our acts to Nigerians and you will realise we are doing well. We can’t let two people lead in the industry, how do the others survive to feed their family?” Ras Kuuku said.
Speaking on the same show as a panelist, host of ‘U Sey Wetin’ on Hitz FM, Da Don asked Ras Kuuku to do more commercial songs to reach the masses if he wants to blow.
“You don’t do music to suit some particular audience. You are creating music for a market, try and meet the aspirations of the market and not that of a few. If you are big then you can do songs that represent you but to rely on your style only then you are wrong. You can’t force people to jump on your music because it’s good,” he advised.
Ras Kuuku recently launched his third album Kuntunkununku on which he collaborated with acts such as Samini, Stonebwoy, MzVee, Rudebwoy Ranking, Black Prophet and Yes Jah.
The 21-track album has songs like Almighty, Only You, Mama, Guitar, Do Wo Nua, Eye Red People, Jamming, One Africa, Your Eye Ball, My Holy Girl and Me Mpaebo.
