Mauritania head coach Amir Abdou reiterates desire to coach Ghana’s Black Stars

Head of the Mauritania national team, Amir Abdou has reiterated his desire to lead the Black Stars of Ghana following the sacking of Chris Hughton.

The Ghana FA are searching for a new coach after parting ways with the Irish-Ghanaian coach following the Black Stars’ dismal performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Amir Abdou is one of the most sought-after coaches on the African continent due to his exploits at the AFCON. He led Comoros to secure their first-ever qualification to the knockout stage during the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon before spearheading Mauritania’s first-ever Round 16 qualifications at the 2023 AFCON.

According to reports, the FA has held talks with Amir Abdou, proposing 45,000 dollars’ monthly salary.

“Who wouldn’t want to coach Ghana?” he replied to Max FM’s Ampofo Ankrah when asked if he would be interested in the current vacant head coach position of the Black Stars of Ghana.

Meanwhile, media reports suggest the Ghana FA has received over 100 applications from coaches around the globe.
