Mass purgery: NPP expels Agona West MP and 279 others

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has axed 280 members in the Agona West constituency of the Central region.

The number comprises a significant number of executives from constituency to polling station levels.

The NPP said the move falls in line with Article 3(9)(1) of the Party’s Constitution (2017).

A statement signed by the constituency chairman, Alhaji Gibrine Tanko, clarified that several complaints were received from other party members against the said persons over anti-party misconduct.

The charges levelled against them include standing as an independent candidate against the NPP’s officially elected 2024 parliamentary candidate, joining or declaring their support for another political party, supporting an independent candidate in the just-ended December 7 parliamentary election in the constituency, and continuously demonstrating such character against the party in every election year.

The affected persons include polling station chairmen, women, and youth organisers, among other party members.

The decision to ban the members from the party was made unanimously at the Expanded Constituency Executive Committee meeting held on Sunday, 15th December 2024.

The meeting was attended by Constituency officers, Municipal Chief Executive, Constituency Founding Members, Current and Former Council of Elders and Patrons, Constituency Disciplinary Committee members, and Electoral Area Coordinators of the party in Agona West.
