MASLOC retrieves gov’t vehicles from Chairman Wontumi

Three government vehicles have been retrieved from the home of Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, according to Abigail Elorm Mensah, CEO of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC).

Speaking in an interview, Ms Mensah revealed that she led the operation alongside National Security officials.

“I went with National Security operatives to the residence of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Chairman Wontumi.

“There were five cars in total. We managed to retrieve three, and we are still pursuing him for the remaining two. He has to pay for them,” she said.

The vehicle retrieval forms part of a wider initiative by MASLOC to reclaim government-owned property and loans from individuals who have defaulted.

Ms Mensah explained that MASLOC’s policy mandates repayment or return of assets if misuse or non-payment is detected.

“Our practice is that once we seize the cars, the agreement stipulates that you must repay whatever has accrued before the vehicles are released back to you,” she stated.

She also revealed that several similar cases have been reported to law enforcement agencies in an effort to protect state assets.

MASLOC said its ongoing recovery efforts are part of a renewed push to strengthen accountability and ensure public resources are not misused or left in private hands unlawfully.
