The President of the Chartered Insurance Insitute of Ghana, Reverend Asante Marfo-Ahenkora, says the cancellation of manual stickers by the National Insurance Commission (NIC) is a step in the right way direction.

The move,  he says will put fake sticker certificate issuers out of business.

The NIC, in a letter,  directed insurance companies to ensure that all vehicles will be captured on the Motor Insurance Database (MID).

The directive, which takes effect from January 20 has also asked all non-life insurance companies to return all unused manual stickers to the authority before the close of the day, January 24 for a refund.

Reacting to this in an interview on  Joy News,’  Rev Marfo-Ahenkora reiterated the need to go digital as most industries are going paperless.

“Basically, the whole industry from banking and the financial services have all gone digital.  Its a means of making things easier, faster, so that we can also check because when it comes to the manual, people can easily duplicate, copy, ” he said.

Rev Marfo-Ahenkora maintained this will ward off middlemen who issue fake stickers.

“You can be given a sticker and think you are insured but when something happens and you realized you are not insured. Who do you blame, ” he quizzed.

The President of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Ghana stresses that ultimately this will go a long way to benefit the policyholder.
