Manso Nkwanta MP demands withdrawal of soldiers after Mpatuam killings

The Member of Parliament for Manso Nkwanta, Tweneboa Kodua Fokuo, has called for the immediate withdrawal of military personnel stationed at Mpatuam following the killing of two residents.

The fatalities occurred after the military confronted residents accused of invading a concession belonging to Asanko Gold Ghana Limited in the Ashanti Region.

Speaking in an interview, the Manso Nkwanta MP condemned the development and demanded a full-scale investigation.

“We are demanding a full inquiry. The way forward is to immediately suspend the military personnel stationed there. Why should they be deployed in such large numbers? You cannot intimidate an entire community with guns.

“You met them living there, so you cannot now use weapons to intimidate them. They came to you with complaints, and now you have shot an innocent assembly member,” he said.

Meanwhile, Asanko Gold Ghana Limited has assured its commitment to working with authorities and community leaders to resolve the matter peacefully.

In a statement, the company confirmed the incident, noting that the military presence forms part of a state-mandated security operation coordinated through the Ghana Chamber of Mines.
