The two suspects involved in the murder of a student nurse at Mankessim in 2022 have confessed to another heinous murder.
The accused persons — Christopher Ekow Clark Quansah, the Tufuhene of Ekumfi Akwakrom; and Michael Amponsah Darko, a self-acclaimed pastor; are facing new charges.
They are being held on charges of conspiracy to commit murder and the murder of one Gloria Yeboah.
The accused persons did not enter pleas during the court proceedings and are scheduled to return to court on June 15.
In the meantime, the police continue their thorough investigations into the matter, aiming to uncover further details surrounding the disturbing crimes.
The new facts before the court suggest that Quansah, the chief and first accused person, resides in Essikafoammatem, Mankessim, in the Central Region, while the second accused person, Darko, who claims to be a pastor, resides in Buokrom, Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region.
According to the prosecution, the accused individuals were known to each other and had developed a friendship. Darko had Gloria Yeboah, the deceased, in 2022 while she was working at Amegashie Herbal Clinic in Breman-Kumasi.
During their acquaintance, Darko allegedly promised Gloria the opportunity to travel abroad and even claimed to have secured a visa for her.
On June 16, 2022, Darko informed Gloria that they would embark on the trip and asked her to meet him in Accra.
However, instead of heading to Holland as promised, Darko took Gloria to Yamoransa in the Central Region on June 18, 2022, under the pretence of introducing her to his uncle, the first accused.
Darko assured Gloria they would return to Accra on the same day to proceed with her journey abroad.
But the following day, June 19, 2022, the body of a female adult was discovered on the outskirts of Batanyaa along the Batanyaa–Assin-Fosu Highway.
The prosecution said the body exhibited visible signs of violence, including marks on the cheek and neck.
It said the body was removed from the scene and deposited at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital Mortuary for preservation, identification, and autopsy.
On September 19, 2022, the accused persons were arrested for their involvement in the murder of Georgina Asor Botchway, a nurse.
The prosecution said during interrogation, the accused persons who admitted the offence also indicated that they murdered Gloria Yeboah on June 18, 2022, at Batanyaa and dumped her body along the Batanyaa – Assin-Fosu main road.
They led the police to the crime scene, which matched Gloria’s body’s location.
Additionally, a passport-size picture of Gloria was discovered in Darko’s residence in Kumasi, which he identified as the deceased.
An autopsy conducted on October 5, 2022, revealed that both victims died from “Sharp Force” (Stab Wounds), further adding to the brutality of the crimes committed by the accused individuals.
