Mandatory health insurance for visitors still under review – Okoe Boye

Source The Ghana Report

The mandatory health insurance policy for non-resident visitors is still under consideration, the Health Minister, Bernard Okoe Boye, has said.

The policy, initiated by the National Health Insurance Authority, aims to ensure that foreign nationals have access to healthcare during their stay in Ghana.

In a statement, Dr Okoe Boye emphasized that the policy has not yet been discussed or approved by Cabinet.

This clarification follows reports suggesting that starting July 1, 2024, foreign nationals arriving in Ghana would need to purchase a compulsory health insurance policy ranging from $45 to $270 before being admitted into the country.

Dr. Okoe Boye urged the public to disregard any misinformation indicating that the policy has been finalized and its implementation decided.

He further assured that any proposed policy would undergo thorough scrutiny and follow all necessary protocols to ensure its benefits for the people of Ghana before being implemented.

Below is the statement from the ministry.
