Man who damaged ‘Big Six’ monument referred for psychiatric evaluation
The man accused of vandalising the ‘Big Six’ monument at the Airport Roundabout in Accra has been referred to the hospital for a psychiatric examination.
The Kwabenya Circuit Court that referred him also remanded him into police custody.
Newwel Gavu is expected back in court on September 10, 2024.
On August 31, 2024, the Police arrested Gavu for allegedly vandalising the monument at the Airport roundabout.
The Police commended members of the public and the Airport Security for their vigilance which led to the arrest of Gavu.
The monument was in honour of leaders involved in Ghana‘s independence struggle.
On Friday, August 30, Gavu was captured on video by some passersby tearing the statues of the Big Six apart.
After sharing the video on social media, the eyewitnesses reported the incident to the police leading to his arrest.
