Man remanded for allegedly stealing Police vehicle

Eric Afful, a driver, has been remanded into custody by the Accra Circuit Court after he was arrested for allegedly stealing a police vehicle.

The stolen Toyota Hilux pick-up, valued at GH¢300,000, belongs to the Ghana Police Service.

Afful is facing two charges, conspiracy to commit a crime and stealing, under the Criminal Offences Act of 1960.

His alleged accomplice, identified only as Acquah, is currently on the run.

According to Chief Inspector Amanie Abel, who is leading the prosecution, the incident occurred on August 19, 2025.

The Commander of the National Patrol Unit had parked the official vehicle outside his home at Ashaley Botwe. The next morning, the vehicle was missing.

A complaint was immediately filed at the Lakeside Estates Police Station. The following day, a police patrol team intercepted the vehicle with Afful behind the wheel.

When officers searched the pick-up, they found a police-issued driving logbook, the complainant’s hospital ID card, and several Toyota ignition keys.

Afful initially told police he had been asked by a friend to pick up a woman using the vehicle. He later confessed to stealing it with Acquah.

The court has remanded Afful into custody while efforts continue to apprehend his accomplice. The case has been adjourned to a later date.
