A 40-year-old man has allegedly killed his 72-year-old stepfather at New Edubiase in the Ashanti Region.
The suspect, Peter Yao Wasser, reportedly attacked his stepfather, Kennedy Atokble, with an axe while he slept in his room.
He subsequently fled the scene, but an alarm from an eyewitness led to his arrest.
But for the intervention of the New Edubiase police, residents would have lynched him.
According to the Assembly member for the Akrutreso Electoral area, Samuel Adu, the motive behind the fatal attack remains unknown.
He said the body of the deceased had been deposited at the New Edubiase Government Hospital morgue while the police continued with investigations.
His mother, Mercy Oforiwaa, a retired Roads and Highway Authority staff, had been declared missing for months.
Meanwhile, a neighbour who suspected Gideon Asomani Addo of stealing his iron rods got him arrested. During interrogation, he also confessed to killing his mother and burying her in an uncompleted building near their home.
This was followed by a coroner inquest by the court, leading authorities to the crime scene for verification and subsequent exhumation in an uncompleted building.
