A 32-year-old man has drowned in a well in an attempt to save his goat at Mmormesobuor near Dormaa Akwamu in the Dormaa East District of the Bono Region.

A station officer in charge of Bush Fires at Dormaa Fire Station, Samuel Agyei, disclosed that the deceased was a stranger in the area; hence, they have no information about his family.

The chiefs in the area had to perform some rituals before the deceased could be removed from the well.

The body has been deposited at the Amomaso morgue in the Berekum West District as police and fire officers investigate the matter.

A similar incident was reported on May 3, 2023, when a 35-year-old farmer, Yaw Owusu, died while attempting to rescue a goat from drowning in a well at Atebubu in the Bono East Region.

The farmer and another friend were on their way to the farm when he was instructed by a neighbour to save her drowning goat.

Yaw Owusu had agreed to accept GH₵‎ 100, but the goat’s owner negotiated for GH₵‎ 70.

After he went into the well, he couldn’t come out.

The residents subsequently raised an alarm and made an emergency call to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

Personnel from the GNFS were dispatched to the area, and they managed to recover the body.

It took three people to descend into the well with a ladder to find the body.

The firefighters later handed the body over to police officers from the district station.

The goat was also discovered dead.
