Across the country, about 1500 suicide cases are reported annually.

Several suicide cases have been reported in recent times.

On May 9, a 45-year-old father of nine, Mr Kwasi Agyei, committed suicide over economic hardship at Adankwame in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region.

According to residents in the area, Mr Agyei had been complaining of economic hardship and his inability to take care of the nine children prior to his death.

The deceased reportedly died after drinking something suspected to be poison leaving behind the nine children to the care of his jobless wife.

Also, a 24-year-old man identified as Malik reportedly took his own life at Atonsuagya, in the Asante Mampong Municipal of the Ashanti Region, on Wednesday, April 26.

According to the Assemblyman for the area, David Awuni, the young man shot himself with a gun, owned by his father.

It is believed that Malik placed the gun on a wall and pulled the trigger, with the bullet striking him in the chest.

Malik’s father discovered his son in a pool of blood after hearing the gunshot.

The deceased had interacted with his father after returning from the farm, parked the motorbike, and entered his room.

The father stated that he did not hear from his son again until he heard the gunshot.

It remains unclear what caused the incident, but details emerging indicate that the deceased was worried about his epileptic condition and had always isolated himself from others.
