A man believed to be in his late twenties, Joseph Amaley, has allegedly committed suicide after squandering some money meant for the renovation of a family house at Eshiem in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region.
He was found hanging on Friday, June 28, 2024, at a ceramic company at Eshiem.
Assemblymember for Eshiem Joseph Bismarck Eshun confirmed the incident.
He indicated that the deceased was working with the company a few months ago but decided to resign after his uncle, living abroad, started sending him money for a family-building project.
According to the assembly member, Joseph Amaley’s uncle, who was sending him money from abroad, is set to return to Ghana to inspect the project.
“It is time for his uncle to return to Ghana, but he had spent all the project money, which got him thinking. He came back to the company and re-applied. He was employed and had started working, but his deeds still haunted him,” he said.
Information gathered indicates that Joseph Amaley, before his death, sent a message to one of his friends that he was not happy with what he had done, and so he may take his life.
Joseph Amaley’s lifeless body was later found hanging at the premises of the company that day.
The assembly member added that his family was informed while the police investigated the incident.
This comes after the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communication Officer at Awutu Senya West Constituency, Kadevi Selasy, allegedly committed suicide at Nkwadum in the Central Region.
Information gathered indicates that the deceased, on Wednesday dawn (June 26, 2024), asked his wife to accompany him to a toilet, which she did.
But she declined when he requested that she accompany him for the second time.
Having failed to return after some time, the wife decided to check on him, only to find her husband hanging.
