Man busted for burning wife’s house after domestic dispute
A man popularly known as a Frenchman has been arrested in Sefwi-Adjoafua, located in the Western North Region, after allegedly igniting a fire in his wife’s three-bedroom residence following a domestic altercation.
Reports suggest that the man, who resides with his wife and their child, reportedly became angry after a dispute during which his wife requested that he vacate her home.
The following morning, he is said to have bought petrol with the intent of setting the house ablaze while his wife and child were present inside.
However, the woman chose not to stay overnight in the home, a decision that many residents believe averted a possible disaster.
The fire completely consumed the house, yet fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Residents reported the incident to the police, resulting in his prompt arrest. He is presently in police custody at the Sefwi-Adum Police Station, where he is cooperating with the ongoing investigations.
The police have not yet released an official statement regarding the incident, but the case has raised alarm over the increasing occurrences of domestic violence in the region.
This comes after a family of seven, which includes five children, tragically lost their lives in an arson attack at Akyempim, located in the Upper Denkyira East Municipality of the Central Region, during the early hours of Saturday, November 1, 2025.
Initial investigations indicate that the husband of the deceased woman intentionally started the fire.
The suspect is said to have locked the victims in the bedroom before igniting the flames and subsequently fled into a nearby bush, where it is believed he took his own life.
The charred remains of the victims were turned over to the Ghana Police Service at Atekyim for further investigation.
Subsequently, police found the suspect’s body hanging from a tree in the adjacent bush.
