A 25-year-old man has allegedly beheaded his father at Assin Akrofuom in the Assin South District of the Central Region.

The suspect, Richard Manu, also known as Azonto, attacked his father, Kwaku Manu, on suspicion that he had spiritually exchanged his prosperous destiny with that of his twin brother.

He also inflicted cutlass wounds on his mother and other family members who were present.

Eyewitnesses who spoke to the media said Azonto went on to threaten them when they attempted to intervene.

“I came out only to find the man slashing his father. So I took a stick, but he threatened to cut me, and so I ran out to seek help. When I returned, police in patrol cars had already arrested him,” one eyewitness narrated.

He added that:

“He [the suspect] and his dad got along well; they don’t have any grudges. They even sleep together”.

The police intervention saved the suspect from being lynched, but he sustained severe injuries.

Meanwhile, he is receiving treatment under police guard at the St. Francis Xavier Hospital at Assin Fosu.

This comes after a 40-year-old man allegedly killed his 72-year-old stepfather at New Edubiase in the Ashanti Region on January 22.

The suspect, Peter Yao Wasser, reportedly attacked his stepfather, Kennedy Atokble, with an axe while he slept in his room.
