A 36-year-old barber, Samuel Boateng, reportedly abandoned his wife after she gave birth to triplets, following the birth of twins a few years earlier.
This has left the 25-year-old wife, Gloria Teye, and the babies, who are in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), stranded at the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua.
According to Gloria, she delivered at home before they were transferred to the hospital.
However, after the nurses informed her husband of the number of babies, he fled the hospital and has since refused to answer any of their calls.
The triplets, she said, are all boys, bringing their total number of children to seven.
They include the previous pair of twins and two other children.

Dejected over her husband’s abandonment, the new mother expressed regret over having more children.
She said her husband had earlier raised concerns over the financial burden of raising multiple children.
He complained about the struggles in maintaining his barbershop, which is reportedly on the brink of collapse.
“The last time I gave birth to twins, and now triplets. I think that’s why he is unhappy because he told me during my pregnancy that things were hard. Even the four children we already have are a burden to him. My husband runs a barbershop in Nkurakan, but the shop is near collapsing due to high electricity tariffs and low patronage,” she added.
Meanwhile, the Eastern Regional Hospital authorities have raised concerns over the increasing number of new mothers stranded at the facility due to their inability to pay bills.
