Man, 35, dies in an attempt to rescue a drowning goat
A 35-year-old farmer, Yaw Owusu, has died while attempting to rescue a goat from drowning in a well at Atebubu in the Bono East Region.
Information gathered indicates that the farmer and another friend were on their way to the farm when he was instructed by a neighbour to save her drowning goat.
The deceased had agreed to accept GH₵ 100, but the goat’s owner negotiated for GH₵ 70.
Yaw Owusu allegedly went into the well but never came out again.
The residents subsequently raised an alarm and made an emergency call to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
Personnel from the GNFS were dispatched to the area, and they managed to recover the body.
It took three people to descend into the well with a ladder to find the body.
The firefighters later handed the body over to police officers from the district station.
The goat was also discovered dead.
According to the extent of damage evident on Yaw Owusu’s skull during the rescue, it is assumed that he may have smashed his head in the well.
