A 27-year-old aspiring journalist, Derick Ofosu Gyan, is battling to regain his sight after he was allegedly attacked with acid by his girlfriend in Sogakope in the Volta Region.
The disturbing incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, leaving the young man with severe injuries that have now affected his vision.
According to information gathered, Derick had been in a relationship with a woman from Nsawam who visited him in Sogakope and spent the night at his residence some weeks ago.
Trouble reportedly started after Derick discovered messages on her phone that suggested she was romantically involved with other men.
Following the discovery, he decided to block her and cut off communication.
About a month after the breakup, the situation turned tragic.
Reports indicate that while Derick stepped out at dawn to take his bath, the woman suddenly appeared and allegedly attacked him with acid.
The corrosive substance reportedly splashed onto his face, causing serious injuries and leading to the loss of his sight.
Neighbours who heard his cries rushed to help and assisted in getting him medical attention.
The suspect was reportedly arrested while attempting to flee the scene shortly after the attack.
