‘Mamprobi baby thief’ remanded in police custody for 14 Days

An Accra Circuit Court has remanded 33-year-old Latifa Iddrisu in police custody for 14 days over the alleged theft of a baby from Mamprobi Polyclinic.

The baby was reportedly stolen on February 18, 2026.

CCTV footage shows Iddrisu, dressed as a nurse, carrying the infant in what appeared to be a sack and leaving the clinic.

The video later circulated widely on social media.

The incident occurred shortly after the baby’s mother had delivered via cesarean section on February 17, 2026, causing panic among staff and patients.

Police arrested Iddrisu, a cloth seller in Accra, at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on February 18, where she was found with the child.

She was later transferred to Mamprobi Polyclinic for questioning and identification.

The baby’s mother confirmed the child’s identity by a distinctive birthmark on the left leg, allowing for the safe reunion of the infant with the family and bringing relief after the ordeal.
