Irate Suame Magazine Artisans have pelted the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs with sachet water today, Monday, July 18 over the deplorable state of roads in the area.
The Majority Leader who also doubles as the Member of Parliament for the Suame area had visited the area to check the progress of the Suame Magazine ECOWAS road following last Thursday’s protest.
It will be recalled that on Thursday, July 14, the artisans blocked the highway to traffic and protested against the government, after an accident claimed the life of a taxi driver.
They threatened another demonstration today if contractors did not return to fix the road.
It was on these grounds that the legislator decided to tour the area today, but he was greeted by the angry artisans who had previously accused him of not serving their interest in parliament.
The angry mob, who were chanting war songs hooted, and pelted their MP with sachet water.
Mr. Bonsu, in the company of the MCE of the area, was quickly whisked away from harm by his bodyguards and the security officials present.
Speaking to the media after he was taken to safety, the Majority leader assured the people that work on the highway will begin in three days.
When asked how he felt about the outburst of the artisans, he stated that their anger was justified.
“We should have engaged them earlier. I am the face of government, so it’s understandable that they want to vent their anger on me,” he explained.
Police officers have been deployed to the scene to restore calm.
