Majority leader condemns “gruesome” killing of Bongo NHIA Director
The Member of Parliament for Bawku Central and Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, has strongly condemned the murder of Mohammed Seidu Akugri, the Bongo District Director of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).
In an official statement issued on May 20, 2025, the legislator described the incident as “gruesome” and “dastardly”.
The deceased was reportedly shot and killed, with his body subsequently set ablaze in Nangodi, a community near Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region.
Mr. Ayariga, in the statement, conveyed his profound condolences to the family of the deceased, whom he described as a “comrade”.
The MP further called on law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
He also called on the people of Bawku to remain calm and focus on the ongoing effort by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to bring a lasting solution to the Bawku conflict.
