Maj. Gen. Francis Adu-Amanfoh is Ghana’s new National Security Coordinator

President Akufo- Addo has appointed Ghana’s current Ambassador to Mali, H.E. Maj. General Francis Adu-Amanfoh as next National Security Coordinator. theghanareport can confirm.

The position remained vacant since the demise of Joshua Kyeremeh, who until the 18th of January 2021 was Ghana’s National Security Coordinator but sadly passed on, after succumbing to covid-19 complications at the Ga East Municipal Hospital.

Barring any unforeseen setbacks, retired Army commander, General Adu-Amanfoh, who has served in various sensitive security roles will be given the opportunity to bring his experiences to bear with the intelligence fraternity on this enormous responsibility.

In July 2017, President Nana Akuffo-Addo named H.E. Maj General Francis Adu-Amanfoh (Rtd) as Ghana’s ambassador to Mali. He was among twenty-two (22) other distinguished Ghanaians who were chosen to head various diplomatic Ghanaian missions in the world.

ABOUT GHANA’S NEW NATIONAL SECURITY COORDINATOR

H.E. Adu-Amanfoh is in his late 70s. He is affectionately known as “General”, he served in diverse command and staff leadership positions in the Ghana Armed Forces for 37 years. In the last six years of his outstanding military career, he was Chief of Defense Intelligence of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Ghana.

The General served as Ghana’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Liberia from 2006-2009 under the presidency of John Agyekum Kufuor.

Prior to his new appointment, He was the resident Ambassador of Ghana to the Republic of Mali, with concurrent accreditation to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.

Francis Adu-Amanfoh had his secondary school education at Prempeh College where he obtained his GCE Advanced level certificate.

In May 2005, he was appointed Head of Defence Intelligence in the Ghana Armed Forces and was posted as Ambassador to Liberia on January 27, 2006.

With his new position, Francis Adu-Amanfoh is expected to work closely with the Minister of National Security, Albert Kan Dapaah, and Interior Minister, Ambrose Derry who were recently re-appointed back to their respective Ministries due to what some say is their satisfactory performance during the first term of President Akufo Addo’s tenure in office.
