Maintain Bagbin as Speaker – Mahama instructs NDC MPs

President-elect John Dramani Mahama has endorsed Mr. Alban Bagbin as Speaker of the 9th Parliament of the Fourth Republic, which commences on the eve of January 7.

This will be Mr. Bagbin’s second term as Speaker after he presided over the 8th Parliament, which ends on January 6.

Mr. Bagbin has been widely praised for his balanced leadership, particularly in managing a historic hung Parliament.

His performance has scored him positive points, convincing Mr. Mahama to opt for continuity as he returns to the presidency.

Special Aide Felix Ofosu Kwakye communicated Mr. Mahama’s choice in a release on Sunday, January 5.

Mr. Kwakye said the decision was taken after extensive consultations with the national executive and parliamentary leadership of the NDC.

With over two decades of parliamentary experience, Mr. Bagbin has championed reforms that bridged Parliament and the public.
