Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has tied the future success of the party in the 2028 elections to the performance of President John Dramani Mahama in the next four years.

He made it clear during Mahama’s inauguration ceremony in Accra on January 7 that if Mahama succeeds, it will open up numerous opportunities for the party in the upcoming elections.

However, he warned that if Mahama’s presidency fails, it could jeopardise the NDC’s prospects, even with the best possible candidate for flagbearer.

“Everything that will happen in 2028 for the NDC will depend largely on the performance of President John Dramani Mahama,” Mr. Nketiah stated. “If he succeeds, we’ll have different opportunities.

Mr. Nketiah urged NDC members to rally behind Mahama’s administration to ensure it achieves success. He pointed out that a successful presidency will lay a solid foundation for any future candidate who steps into the role after Mahama.

Furthermore, Mr. Nketiah addressed party members with future political ambitions, urging them to prioritise the current administration’s success over their personal goals.

“For those with political ambitions, today’s actions should not compromise Mahama’s chances of success,” he advised.

“The immediate focus must be on ensuring that President Mahama succeeds excellently so that any successor can benefit from his accomplishments.”

This call for unity and focus is aimed at strengthening the party’s foundation for the 2028 elections.
