Mahama Team Getting Ready To Hit Grounds
There has been a showcase of John Mahama campaign vehicles, shortly after the Bawumia branded vehicles were spotted. It seems the action spot of the 2024 political season may be related more to the two titans from northern Ghana.
The baton of power has been exchanged between both the Governing New Patriotic Party and the Opposition National Democratic Congress since the promulgation of the 1992 constitution.
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will be the fourth sitting Vice president in the Fourth Republic of Ghana to seek to become the substantive president. Early on, the Vice Presidents to have expressed similar interest in the high office of the land were Prof. John Atta Mills, Mr John Mahama and Alhaji Aliu Mahama. However, from the faintest of expressions, a former Vice President, Mr. Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur could not enact a full campaign before his sudden death in 2018.
John Mahama as a Vice President of Atta Mills moved to the top when his boss died in 2012. That was a constitutional procedure. Mills was the Vice to Jerry Rawlings while Aliu Mahama was President Kufour’s deputy but he did not succeed in his quest to climb to the top as he placed third in his party’s primaries.
There is a certain Alan Kyeremanten and other party stalwarts who may stand between Vice President Dr Bawumia and his push for a possible showdown with the NDC’s candidate John Mahama. That would make it a battle of the northerners, in the sense that the most likely winners of elections since 1992, have always emerged from their parties.
