President John Dramani Mahama has officially sworn in a new Ghana Armed Forces Council today, March 24, 2025.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony at the Jubilee House, the President charged the members of the Council to provide good leadership and uphold the military’s professionalism in the face of internal and regional security challenges.

“This is not just a routine constitutional duty. It’s a reminder of our shared responsibility to preserve the peace, discipline, and integrity of the Armed Forces,” President Mahama said after administering the oaths of allegiance.

“Our Armed Forces are not just an institution within our security setup. They are the defenders of our sovereignty, the protectors of our democracy, and a source of pride for every Ghanaian,” he added.

The Armed Forces Council, established under Article 211 of the 1992 Constitution, advises the President on matters of defence policy, military strategy, administration, and promotions.

The newly reconstituted Council is chaired by Professor Nana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.

Other members include Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Mr Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, Chief Warrant Officer Daniel Addo, Brigadier General (Rtd) Fuseini Idrisu, and Miss Nancy Ampofo.

The President also expressed profound gratitude to the outgoing members of the Council for their service and assured the incoming team of his government’s backing.

He also assured that the government would continue investing in military infrastructure, logistics, and welfare while strengthening regional partnerships in peacekeeping and counter-terrorism.

“The strength of our Armed Forces depends not only on the courage of those in uniform but on the quality of leadership and sound decisions guiding them,” the President said.
