Mahama sacks EOCO boss

President John Mahama has terminated the appointment of the Executive Director of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah.

According to sources at the presidency, she has been instructed to hand her duties to her deputy, Abdulai Bashiru Dapilah, and return to the police headquarters, where she would be reassigned.

COP Addo-Danquah took the position in January 2022 following her role as the Director of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

However, her tenure was met with public scrutiny, especially concerning the agency’s handling of major criminal cases.

This move is part of ongoing efforts by the government to restructure EOCO, the agency responsible for tackling economic crimes and related offences.

The decision is widely seen as an attempt to revitalise the agency and address public criticism surrounding its performance, particularly regarding high-profile financial crime investigations.

This change is part of broader efforts to strengthen law enforcement agencies and rebuild public trust in the country’s anti-corruption initiatives.
