Former President John Dramani Mahama says he will reduce the number of ministers and their deputies who will serve in his government if he is voted into power in the 2024 general elections.
Speaking during his NDC flagbearer campaign launch at the University of Health and Allied Sciences in the Volta Region, the former president said, “We (NDC) shall assemble and operate the leanest but most efficient government under the history of our Fourth Republic.
“We will reduce the size of government significantly, and as announced in my speech at the UPSA late last year, in a crisis situation like this, it is my belief that this country can be governed efficiently with 60 ministers and deputy ministers,” Mr Mahama added on Thursday, March 2, 2023.
Mr Mahama, who is seeking to lead Ghana as president again, among other things, said a new NDC government would focus on completing projects abandoned by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.
“We shall not rush to commence new projects. We will take an inventory of all the abandoned and uncompleted projects in this country, and we will focus on completing them,” he assured.
Former president John Dramani Mahama has officially launched his bid to lead the main opposition NDC in the 2024 general elections.
His campaign is themed: ‘Building the Ghana we want together’.
Mr Mahama will face off with Dr Kwabena Duffour, a former Finance Minister; Kojo Bonsu, a former Mayor of Kumasi; and Ernest Kobeah, a 43-year-old businessman based in the United Kingdom.
They are all vying for the same slot in the opposition party.
Meanwhile, the presidential and parliamentary primaries of the NDC have been slated for Saturday, May 13, 2023.
