Prof. Kobby Mensah, a marketing lecturer at the University of Ghana Business School, has predicted that President John Dramani Mahama will likely carry out a ministerial reshuffle during his four-year term.
In an interview, Prof. Mensah praised President Mahama’s approach to appointments.
He noted a strong focus on party loyalty, professionalism, and regional balance—areas he believes set Mahama apart from his predecessor, Nana Akufo-Addo.
He expressed confidence that the president would ensure fair regional representation, urging Ghanaians to be patient as appointments continue to unfold.
Unlike former President Akufo-Addo, who largely avoided reshuffles, Prof. Mensah believes Mahama will adopt a more flexible approach, making adjustments as needed to meet demands for inclusivity and performance.
The professor also highlighted key appointments made by President Mahama, such as those in the Finance, Energy, and Justice ministries, which he believed reflected a significant shift from the previous administration.
According to Prof. Mensah, Mahama’s choices demonstrate a strong connection to the grassroots of the party, unlike the erstwhile government, where some senior officials had limited ties to the party’s constituency.
Addressing public concerns about regional representation in ministerial appointments, Prof. Mensah reassured the public that the president is committed to ensuring balance.
He also noted that Mahama’s selections so far show a focus on gender equality, demographics, and professional diversity.
On the president’s promise to limit ministerial appointments to 60, Prof. Mensah expressed confidence that this pledge would be honoured.
“This is a flagship promise, and breaking it would undermine public trust. I believe the president will stick to it,” he said.
Prof. Mensah emphasised that President Mahama’s success over the next four years will largely depend on his ability to balance inclusivity, party loyalty, and professionalism.
