Mahama calls for global peace during Eid-ul-Fitr prayers

President John Dramani Mahama has called for peace in the Middle East, urging leaders to prioritise dialogue over prolonged conflict.

He delivered this message during Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at Black Star Square on Friday, March 20, 2026.

He emphasised that lasting peace in the Middle East remains critical for global security, stability, and sustainable development across regions.

He expressed concern about the continued violence, noting that innocent people, especially women and children, continue to suffer greatly.

He added that the conflict has displaced families, destroyed communities, and deepened humanitarian crises across several affected areas within the region.

On the solemn occasion, he urged Muslims and Ghanaians to offer prayers for peace and healing across the troubled region.

He called on global leaders, including Donald Trump, Benjamin Netanyahu, and Mojtaba Khamenei, to end the war.

He appealed for wisdom among leaders, urging them to choose peaceful dialogue instead of violence that continues harming innocent civilians daily.

The President highlighted the devastating human cost of the conflict, stressing that the world cannot ignore such suffering anymore.

He also encouraged citizens to pray for comfort for grieving families, healing for the injured, and relief for those affected.

He emphasised the importance of preserving human life, referencing teachings from the Holy Quran that uphold humanity.

President Mahama reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to peace, justice, and respect for international law in resolving global conflicts diplomatically.

He added that Ghana will continue advocating peaceful solutions not only in the Middle East but across other conflict regions.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu urged the government to tackle illegal mining activities that continue to damage the country’s natural environment.

He cited teachings from the Holy Quran, calling on citizens to avoid destruction and corruption of God’s creation.

He also raised concerns about rising drug abuse, warning that many young people are losing direction due to addiction.

Sheikh Aremeyaw fur explained that drug abuse is destroying the future of many youths and weakening families and communities nationwide.

He urged government to act urgently, offering support from the Chief Imam to address the growing drug crisis.
