Mahama appoints new service chiefs for Ghana Armed Forces

President John Mahama has appointed new acting service chiefs for the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), pending consultation with the Council of State.

A statement by the Presidential Spokesperson and Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, on Monday, March 17, said the appointments take effect from March 24, 2025.

The appointed acting service chiefs are:

  1. Acting Chief of the Defence Staff – Brigadier General William Agyapong
  2. Acting Chief of Army Staff – Brigadier General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu
  3. Acting Chief of Naval Staff – Commodore Godwin Livinus Bessing
  4. Acting Chief of Air Staff – Air Commodore Eric Agyen-Frempong
  5. Acting Chief of Staff – Brigadier General Glover Ashong Annan

The statement added that the president has met the outgoing service chiefs at the Flagstaff House on Monday, March 17, to thank them for their dedicated service to Ghana.
