Former President John Mahama has apologized to the Doromakese chief, Obrempong Danso Abeam, and his elders for a perceived snub during a campaign tour in the Bono East region.
The Benkumhene, Nana Kwame Gyan, revealed that Mr Mahama acknowledged his fault and sent a delegation to the palace on Tuesday morning to apologize on his behalf.
According to Nana Gyan, the traditional authorities were upset after the former president failed to show up for a courtesy call despite waiting for 7 hours.
“Obrempong Danso Abeam and his elders were made to sit and wait for 7 hours following a promise by the former President to pay a courtesy call on Monday. Unfortunately, the former President visited Doromakese but for reasons not known did not show up despite assurance from the NDC parliamentary candidate and MP, Joseph Mensah.”
The chief explained that their action was to register their displeasure for the disrespect and ill-treatment from NDC members in the area.
“There is no bad blood between the traditional authorities and Mahama because last four years he visited the palace to engage the chiefs and even addressed the constituents in front of the palace,” Obrempong Danso Abeam said.
The Benkumhene added that they have accepted the apology in good faith, and the curses invoked have been revoked.
“We have accepted the apology, and the curses have been revoked, although they were not targeted at Mr. Mahama.”
