Mahama acknowledges teachers as pillars of Ghana’s education system
Former President John Dramani Mahama has applauded teachers for their pivotal role in Ghana’s education system.
In a statement released on World Teachers Day, the former president reaffirmed the significance of enhancing the teaching and learning experience as a crucial step towards Ghana’s continued progress and prosperity.
He stressed that teachers serve as the backbone of the education system and that investing in their development was essential.
“Improving teaching and learning must be a top priority for Ghana as we forge ahead towards a more prosperous future. Teachers are the backbone of our education system, and we must provide them with the resources, tools, support, and training to enable them to deliver good quality education to our children,” he said.
The former president used the opportunity to remind Ghanaians that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) remains committed to investing in teacher education and professional development programs.
He recognized that well-trained and motivated teachers play a vital role in unlocking the potential of students, and the NDC aims to equip teachers with the necessary tools and techniques to adapt to the evolving needs of the education system.
Mr Mahama also acknowledged the challenges faced by teachers, including the need for improved remuneration and working conditions.
He reiterated his pledge to Ghanaian teachers, emphasizing that education was a fundamental right and that every child in Ghana deserved equal access to quality education.
The former president concluded by outlining his administration’s plans to strengthen the implementation of the free Senior High School (SHS) policy by investing in infrastructure, expanding access to educational resources, and improving the overall learning environment in Ghana’s SHSs.
