The Ghana Police Service has launched a manhunt for persons involved in a shooting incident during a political campaign walk at Maamobi in Accra.

In a statement, the police said they have restored calm in the area following the clash between supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

They assured that they are currently undertaking an intelligence-led operation to arrest the perpetrators of the gun violence.

Meanwhile, the statement said seven of the injured persons have been treated and discharged from the hospital.

What was intended to be a peaceful political campaign walk at Maamobi in Accra turned bloody when two persons were shot.

The Sunday incident also left others with varying degrees of injuries.

According to eyewitnesses, the clash occurred between supporters of the NPP and the NDC during the routine keep-fit walk.

The event, organized by both parties as part of their campaign activities every weekend, turned chaotic when motorcycle riders from each faction clashed.

An argument ensued over which group would pass through a particular area first.

The encounter resulted in a verbal altercation which escalated into a free-for-all fight.

A member of one of the parties pulled out a gun and fired several shots.

It took the intervention of the police to de-escalate the situation.
