Some 21 persons arrested in connection with the Lukula and Mempeasem violent clashes were on Monday, June 5, arraigned before the Tamale Circuit Court.
The accused persons, believed to have played a role in the violent clashes, were charged with counts of conspiracy to commit crime, specifically rioting with weapons, and causing unlawful damage.
They pleaded not guilty to the various charges.
The presiding judge, Amadu Issifu carefully considered the circumstances surrounding the chieftaincy and land dispute and granted the accused persons bail.
The bail amount was set at GH¢6,000 for each individual, requiring them to provide one surety to secure their release.
The case has been adjourned to June 23, 2023.
Further investigations and preparations will take place to facilitate a comprehensive understanding of the events leading to the violent clashes.
