LPG Marketers Want Government To Address Tanker Drivers’ Demand Immediately
The Liquefied Petroleum Gas(LPG) Marketers Association has entreated the government to take urgent practical steps to resolve the concerns of tanker drivers to avert possible fuel shortages in the coming days.
In an interview, the vice president of the association, Gabriel Kumi noted that the sit-down action by drivers has caused scarcity in some gas outlets.
He said if the government does not intervene, the country will face a possible shortage of LPG and other petroleum products around the country.
This has triggered a rush for the commodity in certain areas, putting pressure on Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) with little supplies.
“I did indicate on June 26 that if this strike is not averted, we will start seeing queues at our LPG outlets, and that’s what is happening now.”
“At the moment, some stations have run out and that has put pressure on the stations with stocks”, he added.
He furthered that if the government fails to act by Friday, June 30 the situation could aggravate.
“Looking at the stock situation, if they don’t get a refill within 24hrs by Friday [June 30, 2023], we may have a serious crisis. And you know Friday will lead us to the weekend and that will not be good for the country.”
Mr. Kumi added that the tanker drivers will not transport LPG till they see the construction of roads.
“The drivers are taking nothing apart from fixing the roads. Our stocks are running out and somebody must listen to us. Please fix this problem as quickly as possible”.
The calls come on the back of a nationwide strike by tanker drivers to drive home their demands for the rehabilitation of the roads in the petroleum enclave of Tema, Takoradi, Kumasi and Buipe.
