Localization of Jersey designs for Black stars

German sportswear manufacturers PUMA has revealed the new 2022/2023 home kits for the Ghana national teams. The newly designed kits will be used for the 2022 World Cup scheduled for Qatar in November and December this year. The Black Stars will open their campaign at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with a clash against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal.

The design and manufacturing of the black Stars jerseys since 2005 have been in the hands of a German sports firm, Puma. Puma has done great when it comes to the designing of the Black Stars jerseys, yet some fans have their own tastes when it comes to how Ghana jerseys should be.

Perhaps, it is time the Ghana Football Association rethink this decision again. The country has for some time being propagating the made in Ghana agenda and the promotion of local industries.

Getting local designers to design sports jerseys for Ghana will help develop the textile and garment industry as it will generate employment and revenue.  Sports command a huge following and unparalleled fanaticism. Sports is one of the few areas if not the only item that stirs genuine act of patriotism and unite Ghanaians wedged by politics.

Eventually, these local designers will also get to compete with other designers like Puma, Nike, and any other multi-national fashion organizations.

The Black Stars shirt has a new collar design and the puma tag. All lined up in horizontal order, the puma logo comes with a text on the right side of the chest, a bold Black Star at the center and the logo of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) occupying the left side.
