Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya Constituency, has urged decentralising sports infrastructure development in Ghana.
While contributing to a parliamentary discussion on the 2023 African Games report, she emphasized the need for more sports facilities in rural areas to nurture talent.
Although she commended the government’s efforts in building AstroTurf pitches nationwide, she stressed the importance of extending such infrastructure to rural areas, citing the concentration of sports development in urban centers.
Infrastructure is very important when it comes to sporting activities.
I must say that as a country we’ve been able to develop a lot of our sporting centers and sporting activities. But there’s still more room for improvement.
I think it is centered in the big cities and we should localize our sporting infrastructural development, Adwoa Safo said.
Adwoa Safo’s constituency, located in the Greater Accra Region, is one of the rural areas that would benefit from localized sports infrastructure development.
