Some parts of the country are likely to experience intermittent power outages in the coming days due to disruption of electricity transmission lines in the Western Region.

The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) Limited said in a statement on Wednesday, 9 November 2021, that a communication mast fell on its 330kV Aboadze–Kumasi Transmission Line the previous day causing a collapse of two adjacent towers.

“This has affected the national power system and may result in some load management,” a statement from the company announced.

“GRIDCO is working around the clock to replace the fallen towers within the shortest possible time. We apologise for any inconvenience caused,” the release indicated.

In the meantime, GRIDCo has assured the public that engineers were working to ensure power supply to all the affected areas.

“GRIDCo is working around the clock to replace the fallen towers within the shortest possible time. GRIDCo is committed to maintaining a stable network for reliable and efficient power delivery. We apologise for any inconvenience caused,” the statement added.

The release did not contain a list of affected areas.

However, there was a blackout on Monday, which has not been attributed to the collapse of the mast.

Places such as Nima, Teshie, Tarkwa, Takoradi, Dansoman, and areas in the Bono Region suffered a power cut.

GRIDCo cited technical challenges to its Aboadze and Bui plants which caused a trip, leading to the darkness on Monday.
