Let’s be vigilant against activities of violent extremists – NCCE Chair

Chairperson of the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE), Kathleen Addy, believes that Ghana has the ability to conduct violence-free elections this year.

She says the attention should rather be focused on the possible activities of extremists.

“We are looking forward to a successful election. We are looking forward to an election without bloodshed,” Madam Addy said.

“We are looking forward to an election where no one has to die for someone to come to power,” she said in an interview on Sunday September 15.

She added “Ghana has great mechanisms to ensure we have a peaceful election. This year, our worry should rather be on external threats to our democracy due to activities of violent extremists.”

The post-2020 election violence led to the death of three people in Techiman South on December 8, 2020.

Eight persons were shot at the Techiman South election results collation center during the 2020 elections.
