Leslie Nkansa Osei-Bonsu, a 51-year-old software engineer and respected member of the Botaase Royal Family, has been nominated by the queen mother of Asante Mampong to become the next Mamponghene.
His nomination follows the passing of Daasebre Osei Bonsu II in April 2025.
A traditional rite was held on Monday, October 13, at the Asante Mampong palace to officially acknowledge his nomination.
The final step now lies with the Asantehene, whose approval will confirm Nkansa Osei-Bonsu’s ascension.
Born on March 14, 1974, in Kumasi, Leslie Nkansa Osei-Bonsu spent his early years in the city.
He began his education at City of Kumasi Preparatory School and later attended Prempeh College, where he served as school prefect.
He continued his academic journey at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, earning a Bachelor of Science in Geometric Engineering, and went on to complete a Master’s in Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (with distinction) at the University of Twente in the Netherlands.
Professionally, he has built a career as a senior software architect and geospatial systems strategist, working across various sectors for over 20 years.
His close ties to the royal family are not only by blood; he is the brother of the current queen mother, Nana Agyakomaa Difie II, but also through a deep connection to the cultural and historical heritage of Asante Mampong.
