The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has announced its intention to revoke the licenses of 50 large-scale mining companies that have been found to violate regulatory standards.
In a statement released by the Ministry’s Communications Directorate, it was clarified that this decision is the result of a thorough examination of large-scale mining activities currently being conducted by a special committee formed for this specific purpose.
Under the guidance of the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the committee has published the initial list of 50 companies that will be impacted by this initiative.
The identified violations include maintaining mining leases without valid operating permits from the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) and the Water Resources Commission (WRC).
The Ministry indicated that this action is part of a comprehensive, multi-faceted government strategy designed to tackle illegal activities and regulatory non-compliance within the mining industry.
Furthermore, it emphasised that the ongoing review aims to guarantee that mining operations at all levels are conducted in strict compliance with approved protocols, environmental protections, and due processes, in accordance with national legislation and best practices.
