Lack Of Support Eclipsing Industry Growth- Patoranking

NIGERIAN reggae-dancehall artiste Patoranking has bemoaned Ghanaians’ failure to support, acknowledge, and help home artistes to earn global visibility.

Patoranking mentioned that despite the industry boasting of artistes with excellent songwriting and performance skills, their significance had been crippled by the lack of support.

Making the remarks on Andy Dosty’s Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, the Abule hitmaker said if Ghanaian artistes had the needed backing, they would have sustained their presence on the global front.

“Remember the best visuals, the best videos are from Ghana. Not just videos, me being a ghetto boy, you know we just do street carnivals a lot during December and parties as well. When it comes to the highlights of every party and we go into that Ghana tempo, it is always a rave.

“I am talking about songs like Tic Tac’s Kangaroo, that was a big one. Then you come to VIP, Mzbel, Praye among other great songs and you know there is a big difference between being big and huge, those were massive and big records, even down to one corner.”

He added, “I find something funny in their reaction. People (Ghanaians) were shocked that I knew these songs. I am not sure even the artistes knew how big they were then. If it was on billboards, they would be competing for the number one, number two spots.”

Patrick Nnaemeka Okorie popularly known as Patoranking, recalled some of the well-known Ghanaian songs from the early 2000s and applauded the musicians who put forth the effort to create outstanding compositions.

He emphasized that Ghana has created some of Africa’s best visuals and music as he has developed an incredible respect for Ghanaian artistes.

Since making his debut on the music arena, Patoranking  has developed outstanding relationships with top Ghanaian musicians and has worked well with artists like Sarkodie, M.anifest, King Promise and Kinaata, among others.
