The La Traditional Council (LTC) has announced that this year’s ban on drumming and noise-making will commence on Monday, August 5, 2024.
The ban is expected to be lifted on Friday, August 30, 2024.
The ban, an annual traditional rite that precedes the celebration of the Homowo Festival by the chiefs and people of the La Traditional Area, requires silence and tranquillity for more than a month after the ritual planting of the crops.
The ban affects any form of noisemaking, including loudspeakers, drums, tambourines, clapping of hands, funeral rites and roadside evangelism.
A press statement issued by the La Traditional Council reminded the churches, hotels, eateries, and other businesses within the La Traditional Area to take note and strictly adhere to the guidelines during the period.
The Council further warned that it would apply tougher sanctions on noise-making violations.
Affected areas include Cantonments, Shiashi, Labone, La township, Oyarifa, Burma Camp, Frafraha, Adentan, Oyarifa etc.
