La General Hospital to shutdown
The La General Hospital in Accra has been shut down to make way for a multi-million dollar redevelopment project.
The redevelopment has been necessitated by the deplorable conditions of the facility, making it unfit for healthcare delivery.
Parts of the hospitals to be given facelift includes surgical, emergency, maternity, male and female wards, laboratory, physiotherapy department, public health department and the diagnostic centre.
The $52-million redevelopment project is scheduled to begin in April 2020 and will be executed by a Chinese company.
Joy News’, Maame Esi Nyamekye Thompson in a report, monitored by theghanareport.com said that the Ministry of Health had awarded the redevelopment contract to Poly Chanda Overseas Engineering Company Limited and Poly Technologies Incorporated.
According to the report, workers had begun moving documents and other valuables ahead of the construction work.
“The La-Dadekotopon Municipal Assembly has established contacts for residents with emergency cases to be transferred to other hospitals.”
The hospital serves residents of La and its environs, Osu, Labone, Teshie, and parts of Nungua. With that probably in mind, the health facility said it had in place measures to ensure that healthcare delivery was not affected.
Meanwhile, workers of the hospital would be transferred to other hospitals.
