La General Hospital Reconstruction Contractor Expected On Site Next Week – Ofori-Atta
The Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, has assured the public that the La General Hospital Project, which had been stalled, will resume next week.
According to him, the government has renegotiated the contract terms, and funding for the project will now be sourced from the national budget.
During the 2024 budget statement presentation on Wednesday, November 15, Mr Ofori-Atta said, “Mr Speaker, the government has renegotiated the contract terms of the La General Hospital Project and will now be funded through the national budget.
“The contractor is expected back on site next week to complete a significant amount of work by 2024.”
On Tuesday, the Health Minister, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, also disclosed that the project will be completed within the same work scope but at a reduced price of €50 million.
The La General Hospital was demolished in July 2020 due to what authorities said were severe structural problems reported by the hospital’s administration.
President Akufo-Addo cut the sod for the reconstruction of the La General Hospital Redevelopment Project on August 10, 2020, but work has yet to begin.
Residents of La and its environs expressed anger over the undue delay, with the MP for the area, Rita Odoley Sowah, calling on the first lady to intervene.
