Construction activity has returned to the La General Hospital project site in Accra, after work stalled for more than eight months because of funding challenges.
When the news team visited the site on Wednesday, February 11, workers were visibly active, marking a clear change from the quiet and abandoned scenes that had come to define the project for much of last year.
The contractor, Poly Changda Overseas, returned to the site on January 31 after receiving payment for certificates raised by the company and approved by the government.
On the ground, progress was easy to spot. Scaffold pipes on the ground floor were being dismantled and transferred to the first floor as preparations continued for floor slabs and second-floor columns.
The movement of workers and equipment signalled a cautious but welcome restart for a project many residents consider critical to healthcare delivery in the area.
Although the exact amount paid to the contractor remains unclear, it is alleged that the government has released part of the GHc130 million pledged through the Minister of Health to support the project’s completion.
For nearby residents, the return of workers is a relief, but also a reminder of the uncertainty that has surrounded the project.
At the time of the visit, no authorised official was available on site to provide further details or timelines for the next phases of construction.
For now, residents say they will be watching closely, hoping this restart marks the beginning of steady progress rather than another temporary pause.
